Stampede Weekly Update: Hanson Brothers at the Arena this Friday Night

The Hanson Brothers from the hit movie "Slap Shot" will be at the Sioux Falls Arena this Friday when the Herd host Lincoln at 7:05 PM. Thanks to Waterbury Heating & Cooling and Coleman Heating & Air Conditioning, fans can receive autographs during the game. Be sure to arrive early and catch the Hanson Brothers on the ice prior to the start of the game. Plus, the first 500 fans will receive a pair of Hanson Brothers glasses!

Stampede top Fargo in overtime

Marcus Perrier's goal 2:21 into overtime lifted the Stampede to a 2-1 overtime victory over the Fargo Force on Saturday in Fargo. Dominic Zombo tallied the lone goal for the Stampede in regulation while Juho Olkinuora earned his second win of the season in goal with 25 saves. The Stampede have now won three straight games and are 4-2-0 on the season.

Ruhwedel off to hot start at UMass-Lowell

Former Stampede star defenseman Chad Ruhwedel is off to a hot start at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell where he leads the team in scoring with six points (1g, 5a) in five games.

Ruhwedel tallied his first collegiate goal on Friday in a 5-4 overtime win over Providence. He also tallied two assists in the game. Of note, former Stampede forward Josh Holmstrom set up the game winner in OT. The San Diego, CA native is a team best plus-5 as well on the season. Holmstrom has three assists in five games and Dan Furlong has appeared in all five games as well.

The River Hawks are 1-2-2 on the season and 1-2-0 in Hockey East play. The Hawks will face Boston University in a home-and-home series this weekend.

Vanek & Nodl face off on Versus Tuesday night!

Former Stampede stars Thomas Vanek and Andreas Nodl will square off against each other In Philadelphia on Versus-TV this Tuesday at 6:30 PM. This marks the first time this season the Austrian natives have faced each other.

Vanek and the Sabres are off to a 4-2-0 start and in third place in the Northeast Division while Nodl and the defending Eastern Conference champion Flyers are off to a 3-3-1 start and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

Vanek has five points (3g, 2a) in nine games while Nodl is scoreless in two games this season.

Oshie leads Blues in scoring

Former Stampede forward T.J. Oshie is off to a hot start as well, leading the St. Louis Blues in scoring with eight points (1g, 7a) in seven games. He is also a plus-3 on the year.

On Friday, Oshie tallied two assists in a 4-2 win over Chicago and on Saturday, he set up the game winner in overtime as the Blues topped Pittsburgh 1-0. Last season, Oshie recorded 48 points (18g, 30a) in 76 games.

The Blues are 4-1-2 on the season and just three points behind the Nashville Predators for first place in the Central Division. Oshie and the Blues face the Predators in Nashville on Thursday night.
