Indiana Ice News Release

THREE-POINTER: The Ice earned three of a possible four points on the weekend as the club fell at Muskegon 5-4 in a shootout and followed that contest with a 3-0 home win over Omaha on Sunday. Indiana squandered a pair of three-goal leads Saturday in Muskegon, but still held on to earn a point. Scoring goals in Michigan were Daniil Tarasov, Dan Cesarz, Chris Martin and Cody Bradley, while Jon Gillies made his Ice debut in net stopping 25 of 29 shots in regulation and overtime. After a sluggish first period Sunday versus Omaha, Indy dictated play the final two frames getting goals from Alex Wideman, Brian Ferlin and Cesarz and two assists from Jarrod Rabey, while also receiving a dominating performance from Casey DeSmith in net (35 saves).

MATINEE IDOL: Goaltender Casey DeSmith took over the USHL lead in shutouts as the veteran netminder posted shutout #2 in an impressive 35-save outing over the Omaha Lancers Sunday afternoon from the St. Vincent Sport Rink at Pepsi Coliseum. For goaltenders that have appeared in five USHL games or more, DeSmith is second in GAA (1.67) and first in save percentage (.948).

KING CESARZ: Forward Dan Cesarz has scored a goal in two consecutive games and is now tied with Peter Schneider and Daniil Tarasov for the team lead in goals with three. Cesarz makes his USHL debut this season after playing the previous year with Honeybaked out of metro Detroit.

WEIRD SCIENCE: The Ice's power play has been a dose of "weird science" as the team is first in the USHL at home with the man advantage (4-12, 33.3%), but last in the league on the road (0-22, 0.0%).

PLAYER MUTTERINGS: Nick Mattson is tied for the USHL lead in plus/minus (+6)...Dan Cesarz, Cody Bradley, Alex Wideman, David Johnstone and Blake Coleman each have points in their last two games....Chris Martin scored the team's first shorthanded goal of the season Saturday in Muskegon.

TEAM OUTLET: The Ice is 2-0-0 against the West, but just 1-3-1 against the East....Indiana has outscored opponents 9-3 in the first period of games this year....The Ice is third in the USHL in goals allowed/game (2.29)...Two of Indy's three wins this year have been shutouts.

CAMPUS ACCOLADES: Cody Reichard (2005-07) tossed a 21-save shutout in Miami's 4-0 win over Northern Michigan on Friday...Garrett Roe (2004-07) recorded three points (2G, A) and Nic Dowd (2009-10) had his first collegiate goal in St. Cloud's 5-2 win over Minnesota on Friday...Kyle Bonis (2006-07) posted three points for Ferris State in a weekend split with Ohio State.
