
Phantoms Fall in Shootout

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms fell to the Waterloo Black Hawks in a shootout Saturday night by a final score of 4-3. After falling behind 3-1, Youngstown was able to tie things up and earn a point.
"I thought we picked up our pace and the guys played responsible hockey. Our guys stuck with it after falling behind, and I'm happy we were able to take three of four points on the weekend," said Phantoms Head Coach John Wroblewski.
Waterloo opened up the scoring in the first period, when Michael Davies redirected Shane Bowers' shot from the point past Phantoms goaltender Colin DeAugustine.
Youngstown would tie the contest less than a minute later, when Phantoms Captain Matt Alvaro scored for the second straight night.
The Black Hawks would reclaim the lead thirty seconds into the second period, and take a 3-1 lead less than a minute later. The Phantoms would battle back however, beginning with James Winkler's power play goal halfway into the second frame.
Youngstown would tie the contest with just 31 seconds left in the second period. Kris Myllari scored a shorthanded goal after Eric Esposito feed him in the high slot. Myllari's wrist shot beat Waterloo goaltender Drew Hotte blocker side.
A scoreless third period led to the Phantoms third shootout of the season. Alex Esposito scored for Youngstown in the shootout, but Waterloo prevailed 2-1 to win the contest 4-3.
"Always tough to lose, but you'll take the point coming from behind. We're excited to go spend some time with our families and recharge, and come back for a strong second half of the season," Myllari said.
Youngstown will be back in action December 27 in Dubuque, Iowa, against the Fighting Saints. Puck drop is set for 8:05p.m. eastern time.
