Buccaneers Streak into Break with Win

December 19, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Des Moines Buccaneers won their third straight game and fourth in a row against the Lincoln Stars to finish before holiday break on a high note.

The Buccaneers and Stars each traded six shots on goal in the first period, and with only one power play opportunity for the Stars and none for the Buccaneers, it was a mostly uneventful opening twenty minutes. The 2nd period had more to offer fans as excitement and controversy were in abundance early in the period; Des Moines was assessed two back to back penalties and Adam Brady scored from the right circle with the 5 on 3 advantage for Lincoln. The Buccaneers would answer in kind with their own power play tally as Zach Jordan scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season at the 6:07 mark when a scrum inside the crease allowed Jordan the chance to pound one home. Chandler Lindstrand followed that up just over two minutes later at the 8:18 mark with a drive from the left point netting his first goal of the season and giving the Bucs the 2-1. They extended that to 3-1 when James Gobetz cleaned up a loose puck brought to the net by Georgy Gorodetsky at 19:18 of the period, skating off the ice after two periods with a two goal lead.

The Lincoln Stars were able to cut the lead to one when a bouncing puck trickled past the goal line Henry Bowlby was credited with the goal. The Stars made a strong push but penalties in the third period made it tough for the Stars to get any offense going as they only had 5 shots on goal in the final frame. Patrick Grasso sealed the win with an empty net goal at the 19:22 mark of the period to make the final 4-2.

Nick MacNab had 19 saves in the win and Peyton Jones managed 39 saves in defeat. The Buccaneers are off for holiday break and will next be in action on Thursday, December 31st as they travel to take on the Fargo Force.
