Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
Muskegon, MI - The Muskegon Lumberjacks closed out the weekend with one point against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, after falling in a shootout, 4-3.
With solid play from Muskegon goaltender, Joey Daccord, the Lumberjacks were able to strike first when Will Graber blasted home a rebound for a shorthanded goal. Chris Klack picked up the assist on the goal and the Lumberjacks led the RoughRiders, 1-0 after one period.
Cedar Rapids regrouped during the intermission, and Luke Morgan scored just seconds into the second period to tie the game 1-1.
Minutes later, a penalty on Muskegon seemed to stall the Lumberjacks scoring efforts. However, Muskegon netted their second shorthanded goal of the night, as Robbie Demontis snapped a quick shot over the blocker of Cedar Rapids goaltender Zach Larocque, to give the Lumberjacks a 2-1 lead.
After ten minutes of scoreless third period hockey, the RoughRiders forward Sam Sternschein snapped in a one-timer, to tie the game 2-2.
The Lumberjacks would strike again and take a 3-2 lead when Mitch Eliot blasted a slap shot that was deflected by Graber, for his second goal of the game.
However, with one minute left in the game, Cedar Rapids forward Zac Robbins, forced overtime when he slipped one past Daccord to tie the game 3-3.
After the overtime frame could not decide a winner, the game went into a shootout, and in the 5th round of the shootout, RoughRiders forward John DeRoche put one in the back of the net, and lifted the RoughRiders to the shootout win.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (11-9-3) will return to action on Tuesday, December 29th, against the Youngstown Phantoms. The Lumberjacks will host their Carload Night when puck drops at 7:15 p.m. It will be the start of a three game stretch in three days.
