Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release
GREENSBORO - If the Grasshoppers were flying high after returning home with a 4-1 record to open the second half, Tuesday's 11-0 jolt by the West Virginia Power may have clipped a wing for Northern Division-leading Greensboro.
West Virginia put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning and it was all down hill from there for Greensboro as starter Alex Sanabia allowed 10 runs, seven earned, on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.
The Power later added three runs in the third, one in the fourth and four more in the fifth on Sanabia's watch.
Ryan Curry singled in the fourth inning to get the Hoppers' first hit of the night. Bryan Petersen followed with a single of his own to extend his current home hit streak to 15 games. Petersen's home hitting streak is the longest active streak in the league and the second longest in the South Atlantic League this season.
Greensboro finished the game with five hits and three errors while the Power put 16 hits on the board.
The quick two-game set wraps up Wednesday with a 12:30 p.m. game. Greensboro will send RHP Brett Durand (7-3, 4.64) to the mound to face West Virginia southpaw Mike Ramlow (2-3, 2.82).
