Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - For the first time since becoming a Washington Nationals affiliate, the Hagerstown Suns will host a Major League rehabilitation assignment as Austin Kearns will join the team on Thursday, June 26th.

Kearns, a right fielder for the Nationals, has been on the DL since May after having surgery on his right elbow. Kearns was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds #7 overall (1st round) in 1998. He's a career .261 hitter in six Major League seasons. Kearns was acquired by the Nationals along with former Hagerstown Suns short-stop Felipe Lopez in a 2006 trade.

Coming off a season in which Kearns hit .266 with 18 home runs, the right hander was hitting just .187 in 2008 before landing on the DL.

The Suns will be taking on the Delmarva Shorebirds on Thursday in the first game of a two-game series. First pitch for the game will be at 7:05 p.m. and gates will open at Municipal Stadium at 6:05. Tickets for Thursday's game are expected to sell quickly. You may order tickets in advance online at www.hagerstownsuns.com or by calling the Suns ticket Office at 301-791-6266.

The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Visit the Suns on the web at www.hagerstownsuns.com. The Suns are owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties.
