Suns beat 'Claws in extras

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (4-2) took down the Lakewood BlueClaws (3-3) in twelve innings on Tuesday night. With runners on first and second in the bottom of the twelfth, centerfielder Mark Gildea chopped a ball to the BlueClaws second baseman Derrick Mitchell. The ball was fielded cleanly, but a high throw pulled Karl Bolt off the bag and he missed the tag on Gildea. Robbie Jacobson, who pinch-ran for Tim Pahuta, hustled around from second and scored the game-winning run.

The Suns got a great start from Colton Willems who went six innings and gave up only one run. He left the game with the Suns leading 7-1.

Hagerstown scored one run in the fourth and exploded for six more in the fifth. With one out in the fifth, left fielder Boomer Whiting singled then promptly stole second base. Gildea then singled to bring home Whiting. After back-to-back RBI singles from Michael Burgess and Sean Rooney, Pahuta crushed his ninth home run of the season of the right field wall.

After Willems left the game, Lakewood took advantage. The BlueClaws scored four runs in the top of the eighth and then tied it with three runs in the top of the ninth. Karl Bolt blasted his fourth home run of the year with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to send it to extra innings.

The Suns and BlueClaws will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow evening at 7:05 from Municipal Stadium.
