New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Dillon Peters struck out seven and combined with two relievers on a four-hitter as the New Orleans Baby Cakes blanked the Sacramento River Cats, 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

After allowing a season-high 11 hits in his last start in Salt Lake, Peters (1-2) scattered three hits across seven innings on Sunday to earn his first career Triple-A victory. The left-hander's seven strikeouts were a season best, and he lowered his ERA to 1.93 in three home starts.

Mike Kickham worked around a leadoff single in the eighth, and Javy Guerra fanned two in a perfect ninth for his second save in as many days and third of the season. The Baby Cakes notched their Pacific Coast League-leading seventh shutout.

Peters was equaled for six innings by River Cats starter Mike Connolly, who was making his Triple-A debut. Connolly gave up four hits, walked one and struck out three and retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced before turning a scoreless tie over to the Sacramento bullpen.

Cristhian Adames reached on a leadoff single against reliever Tyler Beede, who then hit Austin Nola with a pitch to put two runners on. After a sacrifice bunt, Beede struck out pinch hitter Scott Van Slyke, but Austin Dean ripped the first pitch he saw up the middle for a two-run single to put the Baby Cakes in front.

One batter later, Eric Campbell laced an single to left-center to score Dean and push the New Orleans lead to 3-0. Campbell leads the PCL with 19 RBI in June.

Beede (3-8) was dealt the loss, surrendering all three runs in the seventh inning.

The 'Cakes have won the first two games of the series, and continue the homestand on Monday at 7 p.m.
