Reno Aces News Release
Today's Game: The Aces look to rebound this afternoon coming off a 9-5 loss Saturday Night. Reno will send Bradin Hagens to the mound in search of his third win of the season. Ildemaro Vargas extended his season-long hit streak last night to 15 games and Socrates Brito has been on a tear, homering in four of his last five appearances. Reno is 7-12 in day-time contests and 4-6 on when playing on Sunday.
Last Game: In the series opener between the Omaha Storm Chasers and Reno Aces, the Aces fell by the score of 9-5. Offensively, the Aces were led by Socrates Brito who went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Alex Young received the nod from the Aces coaching staff. Young went 6.0 innings and allowed 8 runs on 14 hits. The loss moves the Aces to a record of 32-37 on the season, 9.5 games back of first-place Fresno.
Poetry in Motion: Socrates Brito was optioned from Arizona to Reno on June 4th. Brito, 25, hit .118 (2-for-17) with 1 RBI in 8 games for the D-backs after being recalled from Reno on May 22. He made 6 appearances (4 starts) in right field and 1 appearance (1 start) in left. Since Returning to the Aces lineup, Brito is batting .452 (19-for-42), with 12 runs scored, six doubles 5 home runs and 14 RBI. Over his last five games, he is 9-for-21 (.619) with four home runs and 10 RBI.
Dubious Honors in History: On this day in 2005, in a 13-6 loss to Cleveland, the Diamondbacks become the first team since 1969 to allow ten runs in an inning in consecutive games. The eventual World Champion Mets accomplished the dubious feat in just one day, when Houston swept a doubleheader at Shea Stadium.
15 & Counting: Ildemaro Vargas extended his hit-streak to a season-best 15 games last night with a single in the bottom of the first inning. With a 4-for-5 effort, Vargas is 27-for-71, 11 R, 8 RBI, 2 HR during the streak. Additionally, Vargas has reached base in 19 consecutive games dating back to May 24th in Fresno. The longest hit-streak of the 2017 season was done by D-backs shortstop Ketel Marte. Marte's streak of 22 games spans from April 29 - May 22. He went 37-for-98, .378, with 9 2B, 3 3B, HR and 16 RBI.
From the Biggest Little City to Hiroshima & Back: Today's starter Bradin Hagens, 29, was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth round (186th overall) in the 2009 draft. Five years later, in 2014, he made his Triple-A debut with the Reno Aces. After a brief stint in the Big Leagues, Hagens was released by the D-backs in April of 2015. He played one more season in the International League, but chose to take his talents overseas for the 2016 campaign. The right-hander played two seasons for the Hiroshima Carp, going 7-5 in 61 appearances. Hagens rejoined the Diamondbacks organization in February of this season and has appeared in 12 games (7 starts).
Not Budging: Three of the four teams in the Pacific Northern Division are 6-4 over their last 10 games. The Fresno Grizzlies lead the division with a record of 41-27, 6.5 games above the Tacoma Rainiers. Tacoma is 35-34 this season and winners of 6 of their last 10. Sacramento, the lone Northern Division team not 6-4 over their last 10, sit in third place with a record of 33-36. The Aces find themselves 9.5 games back of the Grizzlies.
