Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, in conjunction with the ECHL, announced rookie Andrew Perugini has been named the Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 23-Mar. 1.
The second goaltender in Thunder history to achieve the honor (Jake Moreland, 2005-06), Perugini, 20, parlayed a record of 3-0-0 with a shootout win, a goals-against average of 1.62 and a save percentage of .947.
After stopping 26 shots in a 3-2 win against Las Vegas on Wednesday, Perugini had 24 saves in a 3-2 win against Idaho on Friday. He ended his week turning aside 36 shots in regulation and making three saves in overtime before stopping three of five shooters in the shootout for a 2-1 win.
The 5-foot-11 and 175-pound Perugini is 12-2-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 2.11 and a save percentage of .928 in his last 14 games.
Perugini won nine consecutive games from Jan. 8-Feb. 13, tying a Thunder record (shared with Devan Dubnyk, 2006-07) and during that stretch, was named runner-up for RBC Financial ECHL Saver of the Month for January.
Perugini, who is under contract to Springfield of the American Hockey League, is 16-8-2 with a shutout and is tied for seventh in the ECHL with a goals-against average of 2.65 in 26 games.
He played the last four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Barrie and Sarnia where he was 75-40-3 with six shutouts, a goals-against average of 3.00 and a save percentage of .915.
The proud affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, the Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for three consecutive seasons and drew 239,337 fans to Stockton Arena in 2007-08.
