Mississippi extends unbeaten streak to five with win over Gwinnet

BILOXI, MS - Ryan Munce made his third consecutive 40-or-more-save performance, and six different players notched two-or-more points as the Mississippi Sea Wolves defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-3 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum to gain sole possession of fourth place in the South Division on Tuesday evening.
Jeff Kyrzakos got the Sea Wolves on the board when he batted home the rebound of Ryan Cruthers shot with Mississippi on the power play at 6:52 of the first period. Kyrzakos potted his second of the night and 14th of the season at 10:25 when he found a loose puck and poke it past Gladiators netminder Dan Turple.
Mike Berry staked Mississippi to a 3-0 lead when he drove down the left wing, cut to the net, and tucked the puck under Turple at 7:04 of the second. The Gladiators cut into the Sea Wolves lead when Adam Berti potted a shorthand goal at 10:16 of the second, and Jean-Claude Sawyer scored during a delayed penalty at 11:48 to make it a 3-2 game.
Mississippi regained its' two-goal lead early in the third period when Ryan Cruthers found the back of the net for the 27th time in the 2008-09 season, tapping home a pass from Alex Parent at 5:20. Tom Zanoski drew the Gladiators within one with a power-play goal at 10:31 of the third, but Alex Parent was able to cement the win when he banged home a loose puck in the crease for his 15th goal of the season at 12:37 of the third period.
Ryan Munce made 43 saves to earn the win, and the Sea Wolves were 1-for-5 on the power play. Mississippi won the season series against Gwinnett, going 11-6-0 in 17 games against the Gladiators.
