Johnstown Chiefs News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced today that all-star goalie Kris Mayotte has been released from his professional tryout with the Hershey Bears of the AHL and returned to Johnstown.
The Pittsburgh native appeared in four games with the Bears and compiled a record of 1-1-1, a 3.84 goals-against average, and a .843 save percentage. Mayotte earned his first AHL win on February 21 against the Philadelphia Phantoms. He replaced starter Daren Machesney 2:45 into the second period with Hershey trailing 3-1. Mayotte went 10-for-11 on save opportunities and backstopped the Bears to a 5-4 overtime win. The 26-year-old netminder made his AHL debut by appearing in one game for the Lowell Lock Monsters in 2006.
Signed as a free agent by the Chiefs this past summer, Mayotte is 18-9-2 for Johnstown this season with a 2.70 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. Mayotte leads Chiefs goalies in wins, goals-against average, and save percentage. Mayotte ranks seventh in the ECHL in wins even though he hasn't played an ECHL game since the Chiefs won 5-3 against Reading on January 31. Mayotte has been named ECHL Goalie of the Week twice this season and was named the starting goalie for the American Conference at the ECHL All-Star Game played in Reading on January 21.
Mayotte is expected to be in uniform when the Chiefs take on the Wheeling Nailers tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. ET.
Mark your calendars! The Chiefs are back on home ice on Wednesday, March 4th against the Wheeling Nailers on Pups and Pucks Night.
