Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Defenseman Bryan Miller has been loaned to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. The Aces open a three-game series with Las Vegas Friday at 7:15 p.m.
Miller ranks eighth among ECHL defensemen (and second only to Matt Shasby on Alaska) with 33 points in 54 games this season. Three of his nine goals have been game-winners (tied for second on the team), including two against arch rival Victoria, in overtime on November 22 in Canada and with 57 seconds left in regulation to nip the Salmon Kings 4-3 February 11 in Anchorage.
The 26-year-old Miller began the year with the Aces AHL affiliate in Peoria and assisted on two goals in three games for the Rivermen. A fourth-year pro out of Boston University, Miller was named a National Conference starter for the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game, but did not play as a result of a season-ending injury suffered three weeks before the contest. He likely will be in the Providence lineup when the Bruins play at Toronto Wednesday.
Corbin Schmidt figures to replace Miller in the Alaska lineup when the Aces, owners of a three-point lead in the West Division at 34-20-3 overall, meet Las Vegas in the first of a three-game set Friday in Anchorage at 7:15 p.m. Alaska has won four straight games overall and leads the ECHL with a 22-6-1 record at home, having won 11 of its last 12 contests held in Anchorage. The Aces swept a pair from the Wranglers at home to open the regular season and split two games in Las Vegas just after Christmas.
The series continues Saturday at 7:15 p.m. (after the game, make sure to set your clocks one hour FORWARD) and concludes Sunday at 5:05 p.m. The Wranglers (26-24-8 overall) are winless in their last 10 games after an eight-game winning streak. In the first eight games of their most recent winless skid, Las Vegas scored a grand total of 11 goals, being held to exactly one in six of those contests.
All three games at Sullivan Arena this weekend will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Alaska Aces hockey, KFQD AM 750, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
