Cameron Perkins hit a double in the bottom of the tenth to score Roman Quinn for the game-winning run to beat Auburn 3-2.
In his first game as a Crosscutter, Perkins went 1-for-4 after getting called up from the Gulf Coast League.
Josh Warner posted the longest outing for the Cutters this year and struck out five of the first seven batters he faced. Warner allowed just two runs in seven innings of work, but did not factor in the decision.
Zach Cooper was equally effective in relief. He picked up his first professional win after throwing three scoreless innings in relief. Cooper still has not allowed a run in his pro career.
For the first time in five games, the Crosscutters took the lead first. Larry Greene got a curveball over the plate and grounded it up the middle to score Chace Numata in the first inning.
A curious incident occured in the 3rd. Destin Hood blooped a single into left-center field, but thought the ball was caught. Hood started to trot back to the dugout and was called out on the infield grass after he left the baseline.
Williamsport took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning. Quinn sent a line drive through the gap into left to score Mitch Walding, who had led off the inning with an opposite field single.
Warner came out in the seventh inning and retired the first two batters, but walked Khayyan Norfolk. Warner then allowed back-to-back RBI hits to Jordan Poole and Craig Manuel to tie the game at two.
After neither team threatened in the eighth or ninth innings, the game went to extras.
Quinn drew a walk from Auburn reliever Derek Self to lead off the 10th for Williamsport. He then reached second base on a sacrifice by Numata. Perkins then looped a double into the right-center field gap to score Quinn, who hesitated coming around third, but slid in safely for the winning run.
The Cutters remain undefeated at home as their overall record moves to 4-2. They hold a share of the lead in the Pinckney Division.
Williamsport goes for the sweep on Auburn Sunday night at 5:05pm at Bowman Field. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
