
Cyclones Strike Early and Often in Aberdeen

The Aberdeen IronBirds lost to the Brooklyn Cyclones in the last game of the series Saturday night, 7-1. The IronBirds were caught behind early in the second inning when the Cyclones put up four quick runs against starting pitcher Cameron Coffey, and scored two more in the fifth.
Cyclone, Stefan Sabol singled on a line drive to CF Anthony Vega. Jeff Glenn walked, advancing Sabol to second. Dimas Ponce RBI singled to Roderick Bernadina allowing Sabol to score and Glenn to move to second. Richie Rodriguez hit an RBI double to LF Will Howard, Glenn scored and Ponce moved to third. Brandon Nimmo singled on a line drive to Howard, and gave Ponce and Rodriguez the chance to score. Cyclones forced a quick three outs on the IronBirds at the bottom of the second inning.
At the bottom of the third, Will Howard hit his third double of the season on a line drive to LF Eudy Pina. Jerome Pena poped out to 3B Dimas Ponce in foul territory and Bernadina grounded out to 3B Ponce, ending the inning still 4-0.
The Cyclones tacked on two more runs at the top of the fifth against Coffey, bringing the score to 6-0, and causing the IronBirds to bring in relief pitcher Ken Wise. DH Kevin Plawecki crushed a two-run homerun on a fly ball to left field, bringing in Alexander Sanchez as well.
The IronBirds finally put one up in the bottom of the seventh inning. DH Roberto Ortiz hit his second double of the season to LF Stefan Sabol. Pedro Perez RBI singled to Brandon Nimmo, bringing home Ortiz.
IronBirds closing pitcher Enrico Jimenez ran into trouble in the top of the eighth against Phillip Evans, who hit a homerun over the left field wall. The Cyclones ran away with the game early on, beating the IronBirds 7-1.
Cyclone Rainy Lara gets the win, while Cameron Coffey picked up the loss.
The Aberdeen IronBirds play the Cyclones Sunday, June 24th in the final game of the three-game series. RHP Sebastian Vader (0-1, 6.75) will take the hill for the IronBirds while Brooklyn will turn to RHP Gabriel Ynoa (0-0, 0.00).
