Scrappers struggle to get big hit as they fall at State College

A night after failing to score a run, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers bats struggle to come alive again. The Scrappers scored early to take the lead in the 1st inning, but then proceeded to strand 11 runs on base in the next 8 innings. Geoff Davenport (0-1) started and took the loss.The 1st inning started of promising when Mark Bradley reached on a fielder's choice. He would come around to score on Mitch Nilsson's RBI double to left field. Nilsson would be stranded at 2nd, starting a string of 6 straight innings with at least one runner left on base.Davenport pitched the first 4 innings. He allowed 3 runs while striking out 2. Jacob Lee relieved Davenport. In his professional debut Lee was dominating. He went 2 innings and did not allow a hit while striking out 4. The Spikes broke the game open during a 5 run 8th inning.

The Scrappers and Spikes will be back at it tomorrow night at 6:05 at Medlar Field at Labruno Park in State College. The Scrappers will return home on Monday June 25th.
