Auburn Doubledays News Release

WILLIAMSPORT, P.A. - The Auburn Doubledays (3-3) fell out of first place for the first time this season as they suffered a 3-2 loss in 10 innings at the hands of their Pinckney division rivals the Williamsport Crosscutters (4-2) on Saturday night at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport.

Crosscutters DH Cameron Perkins drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th in his first game since being called up from the Gulf Coast League Phillies. Perkins laced a double to right center that fell just a couple feet in front of Doubledays RF Wander Ramos. Ramos had entered the game prior to the start of the bottom of the 10th for starter Destin Hood.

Williamsport SS Roman Quinn scored the winning run on Perkins' hit. Quinn was walked to lead off the inning, and had advanced to second on a throwing error by Doubledays pitcher Derek Self (0-1). Self was charged with the loss as he pitched 1.0 + innings surrendering the one run on one hit.

The Crosscutters got on the board first in the bottom of the first thanks to an RBI single by LF Larry Greene. Catcher Chase Numata scored from second on Greene's hit. He had gotten aboard thanks to a two-base throwing error by Doubledays SS Stephen Perez, his second error of the season.

Williamsport got its second run in the fifth on an RBI single by Quinn. Third baseman Mitch Walding and RF Brian Pointer had back-to-back singles to lead off the inning, and it was Walding who scored on Quinn's hit. That put the Crosscutters ahead 2-0.

Auburn scored its two runs in the top of the seventh with two outs. Third baseman Kayyan Norfork walked and scored from first on a double by LF Jordan Poole. Poole then scored from second on a single by the next hitter in the lineup catcher Craig Manuel.

Getting the win for Williamsport was RHP Zach Cooper (1-0), who came on in relief of starter Joshua Warner to start the eighth. Warner's final line was two earned runs allowed on six hits in seven innings while walking one and striking out six. Doubledays starter RHP Taylor Jordan went two full innings in his second rehab start since undergoing Tommy John surgery last summer. Jordan allowed one unearned run in his two innings of work.

The Doubledays and Crosscutters will go at it again on Sunday evening in the final game of the three game series. The Doubledays will send RHP Silvio Medina (0-0) to the mound for his first start and second appearance of the year. He will square off against RHP Ulises Joaquin (0-0) for the Crosscutters. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05pm.
