Hartford, Connecticut - Blake Perkins smacked two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Somerset Patriots (8-6) to a 7-4 win over the Hartford Yard Goats (7-7) at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Saturday evening.
Michael Toglia got the scoring started with a two-run home run (2) in the first inning.
Somerset tied up the game in the fourth on a Chad Bell RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Jesus Bastidas.
A home run by Willie MacIver (5) in the bottom of the inning put the Yard Goats back in front.
Perkins (3) then hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth to give the Patriots a 5-3 lead.
Hartford got another run in the sixth on an error to cut the lead to 5-4.
Perkins' (4) second blast of the night in the seventh put Somerset up 6-4. He finished the night 3-for-5 with three runs scored.
Anthony Volpe came home to score on an error in the ninth for the final run of the game.
Kyle Zurak (1-0) picked up the win after he allowed a run on a hit and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched. PJ Poulin (0-1) took the loss with two runs on a hit in 0.1 innings pitched. Steven Jennings (1) earned the save with three strikeouts in three innings of work.
The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on Sunday afternoon with a 1:05 pm game against the Yard Goats at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Fans can catch the action on FOX Sports New Jersey 93.5 FM | 1450 AM, the Flagship Station for Somerset Patriots Baseball.
