Perfect week moves Rockford into second place in UHL

Following a big come-from-behind victory over the Fort Wayne Komets on Wednesday, the Rockford IceHogs finished off a perfect four-game week and head into the All-Star break with a 16 point lead in the UHL's Western Division. Winger and leading scorer Jason Notermann and defenseman Corey Hessler are heading to Missouri to represent the IceHogs in the 2006 All-Star game this Wednesday. Rockford resumes action on Friday in Kalamazoo against the Wings.

Transactions

-Defenseman Tom Zabkowicz was moved from the 7-Day Injured Reserve to the 10-Day Injured Reserve on Saturday, Jan 21.

-Defenseman Joe Markusen was placed on the 7-Day Injured Reserve on Saturday, Jan. 21.

-Defenseman Corey Hessler was re-assigned to the IceHogs from Milwaukee on Saturday, Jan. 21.

-Defenseman T.J. Reynolds was assigned to Rockford from Milwaukee on Friday, Jan. 20.

-Defenseman Tom Zabkowicz was placed on the 7-Day Injured Reserve on Friday, Jan. 20 retroactive to Tuesday, Jan. 17.

-Winger Rob Voltera was activated from the 10-Day Injured Reserve on Wednesday, Jan. 18

-Goaltender Marek Roznik was released on Monday, Jan. 16.

-Goaltender Michel Robinson was returned to Rockford from Milwaukee on Monday, Jan. 16.

-Defenseman Matt Gens was returned to Rockford from Milwaukee on Monday, Jan. 16.

Bacon Bits:

Rockford set a club record with an 11-game home unbeaten streak (10-0-1).

Center Preston Mizzi tied a team season high with a six-game point streak with his goal on Sunday. Mizzi has 3g-4a-7pts during his hot streak.

Rockford tied a season high on Friday night with 53 shots on goal against the Port Huron Flags, one shy of the club record.

The Hogs also set a season high with 24 shots on goal in the first period, also one short of the club record.

The IceHogs' 28 wins, matches the team's entire win total from the 2003-04 season, the season before Steve Martinson arrived in Rockford.

Rookie winger Chaz Johnson accumulated 4g-4a-8pts over a three game stretch (1/18/06-1/21/06) this week.

Rockford now leads the UHL on the penalty kill at home (92.0%), on the road (88.2%) and overall (90.6%).

Rockford will play only three games in the next 14 days.

After last Saturday's game at the MetroCentre, the Hogs won't play another home game for 17 days.

Hot Hog Week 14:

Rookie winger Chaz Johnson netted four goals and four assists to pace the IceHogs to a perfect 4-0-0 week. Johnson's hot week included a pair of three-point efforts, including a goal and two assists on Wednesday and Saturday..

Upcoming Games:

Friday, Jan. 27 at Kalamazoo Wings. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m. Rockford travels back to Wings Stadium to battle the Kalamazoo Wings for the final time this season. The game features two of the top three teams in the UHL.

Saturday, Jan. 28 at Flint Generals. The puck drops at 6:35 p.m. The Hogs continue their five-game road swing with their first contest of the season in Flint against the Generals. Rockford and Flint have played twice already this campaign in Rockford and this meeting is the first of three at the Perani's Hockey World Arena.

New to the network this season is ESPN Radio "The Jock" 1380 AM. The Jock will broadcast 20 Hogs games during the regular season. Check your local listings. Also, fans with Insight Cable television can tune in to Channel 57 for all the IceHogs hockey action this season. The broadcast begins with the Pregame Show 20 minutes before the puck drops. Make sure to give your opinion during the 10th Inning Bar and Grill Post-Game Call-In Show following each home game at (815) 874-8255.

The Komets have chosen not to adhere to league rules and do not have B2 Network access in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum at this time. IceHogs fans can catch all the Hogs games, home and away via broadcast and video through the B2 Network on icehogs.com all season, with the exception of the games played in Fort Wayne. HogTalk returns tonight at Shooter's North located at 7742 Forest Hills Road in Loves Park from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The show is hosted by WXRX's Jim Stone and Double T and features IceHogs Head Coach Steve Martinson each Monday. Also this week, Greg Barber and Dan Boeser will be there to talk Hogs hockey and meet fans.
