Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

LAST WEEK'S GAMES: The Roanoke Valley Vipers hosted the Danbury Trashers and the Richmond RiverDogs for three games this past week, dropping all three as they remain in the cellar of the UHL's Eastern Division at 12-22-4 with 28 points. The Vipers will look to regain some ground as they begin an eight-game road trip this weekend in Flint and Muskegon.

Friday, January 20th vs. Richmond

Richmond RiverDogs 4, Roanoke Valley Vipers 3

The Vipers kept up the pace with their cross-state rival RiverDogs throughout the game on Friday, but fell by a final score of 4-3 as Mike Oliveira scored a fluke goal on new Vipers netminder Trevor Cunning at 12:52 of the 3rd period, which gave Richmond the lead. Cunning was knocked off balance, and could not get to the puck fast enough before it drifted between his legs, as he took a tough loss in his first start as a Viper. Mike Wiggins scored two goals for the second game in a row, and Matt Miller scored his first goal since November 27th.

The RiverDogs defeated the Vipers for the second night in a row Saturday night at the Roanoke Civic Center. Jonathan Charette scored two goals in the game, the first of which was his first this season as a member of the Vipers. Mike Krelove scored at 19:38 of the third, but there was not enough time for the Vipers to catch up to with the two-goal lead the ‘Dogs had gained, and the Vipers fell by a final score of 5-3.

THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Vipers will travel to Flint, Michigan on Friday, January 27th and to Muskegon, Michigan on Saturday, January 28th to kick off an eight-game road stretch. They will head back to Virginia after their game against the Fury Saturday, and then travel across the state to face the RiverDogs on Wednesday, February 1st.
