
Perconte to DL, Bristow Activated for Friday Start

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that right-handed pitcher Justin Bristow has been activated from the disabled list and will start Friday night in Clinton while right-handed pitcher Mike Perconte has been placed on the disabled list with a left calf strain retroactive to Tuesday.Bristow's last outing came on Thursday, June 4 against Beloit when he allowed just one run over five innings to improve to 2-2 on the season. He landed on the DL with a right calf strain suffered late in Thursday night's contest. In eight starts since joining the Chiefs in late April, Bristow has struck out 21 and walked 10 in 31 1/3 innings while posting a 4.88 ERA. Both of Bristow's wins have come against Beloit and he tossed five innings in each of his last two starts. A fifth round draft selection by the Cubs in 2008 out of East Carolina, Bristow pitched in six games combined between Mesa and Boise last season before being shut down with an arm injury. In that brief stint, he was 2-1 with a 9.00 ERA in six appearances and four starts while striking out 15 over 13 innings.Perconte has appeared in 18 games so far this season in a Chiefs uniform and is 3-1 on the season with two saves and a 3.69 ERA. He is 2-for-2 in save opportunities so far this season. His last outing was on Tuesday when he allowed three runs on one hit and two walks in just one inning of work at Kane County. In 31 2/3 innings, Perconte struck out 24, while walking 14 and giving up 13 earned runs. His season high three innings pitched came on April 14 in which he earned his first win and on April 29 in his first save of the season. A native of Naperville, IL, Perconte signed with the Cubs in 2008 as a non-drafted free agent out of Murray State University. He began his professional career pitching last season in Boise going 2-1 with a 4.85 ERA in 19 games.
The Chiefs take on the Clinton LumberKings in game three of their four-game series in Clinton Friday at 7:00 p.m. After the series finale on Saturday against the LumberKings, the Chiefs come back home for an eight-day, nine-game home stand from June 14-21 against Quad Cities and Burlington to end the first half. The Chiefs are currently five games out of first and four games out of the wild card race.
