Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Bobby Blevins allowed just four hits and one run over seven innings as the Great Lakes Loons (32-29) cruised past the host Lansing Lugnuts (23-37), 4-1, in a crisp two hours and three minutes before a Friday night crowd of 5,319 at Oldsmobile Park.
In control from the get-go, Blevins (4-4) held the Lugnuts hitless until a Mike McDade single in the fifth inning and scoreless until a run-scoring McDade double play grounder in the seventh.
Former Lugnut Anthony Hatch's RBI single in the first inning gave Great Lakes the early lead against Lansing starter Josh Wells.
In the fifth, Jaime Pedroza's RBI single increased the lead to 2-0. With runners at second and third, a Wells pitch skipped away from catcher Chris House, who could not immediately locate the ball, allowing both Pedroza and Dee Gordon to score.
Wells (3-7) suffered the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out four.
Gordon singled and tripled twice in the winning effort, giving the Loons shortstop a league-leading eight three-baggers in 2009.
Chris Emanuele doubled twice and Yohermyn Chavez went 2-for-4 with a run scored in defeat.
The Loons and Lugnuts play the finale of their four-game series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Oldsmobile Park, with LAFCU Fireworks following the game's conclusion. Right-hander Jonas Cuotto (1-3, 5.35) receives the spot-start Lansing, opposed by Great Lakes right-hander JonMichael Redding (7-2, 5.17).
