Clinton LumberKings News Release

Peoria, IL - The Clinton LumberKings (30-37) recorded just four hits, allowed 11 - two being home runs - and were dealt their fourth straight loss, a 5-0 shutout by the Peoria Chiefs (36-32) Saturday night at Dozer Park. The L'Kings have now lost 10 of 11 games and have been outscored 67-38 during their worst first-half stretch.

Clinton right-hander Carlos Misell (6-6) failed in another attempt to grab a league-high seventh win, despite pitching well through the first five innings. Through the first five innings, Misell scattered four hits, the lone mistake a solo shot allowed to Chiefs shortstop Juan Herrera. The Venezuelan didn't get any run support offensively and simply ran out of gas in the sixth.

Peoria third baseman Michael Schulze opened the sixth with a double and moved to third on a bunt single by CJ McElroy, Jr. Herrera then walked, loading the bases for Justin Ringo. And Ringo who had recorded at least one hit in each of his first eight games with Peoria, made it a perfect 9-for-9. The left-handed hitting slugger launched a 2-2 fastball from Misell over the wall in left for a grand slam, giving the Chiefs a 5-0 lead, and the eventual final margin.

Before Ringo's blast, it was Chiefs starter Rob Kamisky (2-1) who pitched very much like the No. 28 overall pick that the St. Louis Cardinals made him a year ago. The southpaw had a no-no intact until Martin Peguero singled with one out in the top half of the sixth. Zach Shank followed with a single to right, but the New Jersey native struck out Aaron Barbosa and got Jack Reinheimer on a lineout to center, stranding the L'Kings' go-ahead run at second base.

Kaminsky exited after the sixth and gave way to Kevin Herget who picked up his second save by delivering three shutout innings in relief. Kaminsky recorded six strikeouts, did not walk a single batter, and lowered his ERA to a miniscule 1.45. Misell also struck out six batters but was charged with five earned runs and doubled his season total in home runs by allowing two long balls.

Peguero was the lone LumberKing to record multiple hits, going 2-for-3. Justin Seager saw his 13-game hitting streak come to an end with a 0-for-4 night. The third baseman ended the game by grounding into a 6-4 fielder's choice.

Herrera and Schulze each notched two hits apiece for the Chiefs. Herrera's fourth-inning blast was his first home run of the season.

Clinton concludes their three-game series against Peoria Sunday at Dozer Park. Right-hander Jose Flores (2-0, 4.66) will start for Clinton and will be opposed by Chiefs right-hander Arturo Reyes (4-3, 2.98). First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM CT. The game can be heard on WCCI 100.3 FM, wcciradio.com, and lumberkings.com.
