Peoria Chiefs News Release
PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs got a grand slam from Justin Ringo and a solo home run from Juan Herrera to back Rob Kaminsky in a 5-0 win over the Clinton LumberKings on Saturday night. A crowd of 8,146 came through the Dozer Park gates, the eighth-largest attendance in the park's history. The Chiefs are 36-32 with one game remaining in the first half of the season. The Chiefs broke the scoreless game in the fourth inning as Herrera hit the second pitch of the frame over the left field wall for his first home run of the season. Peoria got four more runs in the sixth on one swing of the bat. Michael Schulze led off with a double and CJ McElroy Jr. attempted to sacrifice him over to third, but he beat it out for a single to put runners at the corners. Herrera walked to load the bases and Ringo hit a grand slam to left for a 5-0 Chiefs lead. Kaminsky allowed only one baserunner through five innings when Justin Seager reached on an error with two outs in the second. Kaminsky gave up back-to-back singles with one out in the sixth but stranded the runners at second and third and came out of the game at the end of the inning. He struck out at least one batter in each inning except for the fourth. Kaminsky (2-1) went the first six innings allowing just two hits with no walks and six strikeouts to earn the win. Kevin Herget pitched the final three innings on two hits, a walk and two strikeouts for his second save.
