Peoria Chiefs News Release
PEORIA, IL - The trio of Dionys Rodriguez, Jack Ralston and Nick Trogrlic-Iverson allowed just one unearned run in a 4-1 triumph over the Fort Wayne TinCaps Wednesday.
Rodriguez, who made his first start following the All-Star break, worked around just one baserunner in a clean first inning. In the second, Rodriguez shifted into fourth gear. He then struck out the next five batters he faced, rolling over the strikeout streak into the third inning.
The Peoria offense did their damage over a stretch of three innings. In the home half of the second, back-to-back triples got the offense started in a big way. Tyler Reichenborn led off the frame with a triple off the base of the wall in right. Three pitches later, Francisco Hernandez tripled to the gap in left center to make it 1-0. With Hernandez at third and still no one out, Tommy Jew singled home Hernandez to make it 2-0.
An inning later, LJ Jones drove in Brady Whalen to extend the Peoria lead to 3-0. For Jones, it marked his fourth-straight game with an RBI, one off the longest stretch by a Peoria batter this season.
In the fourth, it was Whalen who provided the run production. After falling into an 0-2 count, Whalen looped a single to right to score Lott and give Peoria their largest lead of the night at 4-0.
The cushion was more than enough for Rodriguez. After he stranded the bases loaded in the fourth, the right-hander logged a 1-2-3 fifth inning and capped off his ninth with a strikeout of Padres top prospect Robert Hassell. All told, Rodriguez posted five scoreless and whiffed seven TinCaps batters.
In the sixth, the TinCaps made things interesting. After scoring a run off Ralston, Peoria turned to Nick Trogrlic-Iverson with the sacks full and two outs in the sixth. With the Chiefs clinging to a 4-1 lead, Trogrlic-Iverson needed just one pitch to get out of the jam.
From there, the Peoria right-hander kept Fort Wayne off the scoreboard the rest of the night. Trogrlic-Iverson recorded a 10-out save to lock in the 4-1 final.
The series continues Thursday at Dozer Park. Inohan Paniagua will make his High-A debut for the Chiefs. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
