Luis Rijo Transferred to Cedar Rapids, Sean Mooney Placed on IL

Cedar Rapids, IA - Righthanded pitcher Luis Rijo has been transferred to the Cedar Rapids Kernels from the FCL Twins. In an additional move, the Kernels have placed righthander Sean Mooney on the 7-day Injured List with a right neck strain. With today's transactions, the Kernels active roster stands at 29 players.

Rijo is scheduled to start today's game against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Fox Cities Stadium. The righthander made six appearances with five starts for the FCL Twins as he continued his return from right elbow UCL reconstruction, tossing 15.0 innings to the tune of a 1.20 ERA with an 18:3 K:BB ratio. Acquired by the Minnesota Twins from the New York Yankees alongside Tyler Austin in exchange for Lance Lynn in 2018, Rijo made 19 starts for Cedar Rapids in 2019 and went 5-8 with a 2.86 ERA over 107.0 innings of work.

Mooney has gone 2-2 with a 2.50 ERA across 13 appearances and 11 starts, striking out 73 and walking 26 over 54.0 frames. The righthander has allowed just 38 hits for a .196 batting average against. In his last start, Mooney struck out nine over 5.0 innings of two-run ball on July 15 at Beloit.
