Pensacola Downs RiverKings in Wild 6-5 Game

PENSACOLA, FL. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers outlasted the Mississippi RiverKings in an exciting game that saw 11 goals as the Ice Flyers won 6-5.

Paul Rodrigues opened the scoring for the Ice Flyers when he beat RiverKings' Matthew Krahn just 2:54 into the game. Justin Alonzo and Podge Turnbull assisted on the goal. Mike MacIntyre scored a few minutes later to give the Ice Flyers the 2-0 lead with 12:46 left in the period. Adam Pawlick and Keegan Flaherty assisted on the MacIntyre goal. Mississippi's Tyler Melancon cut the lead down to 2-1 with 6:34 left in the frame. Alonzo picked up his second point of the night when he scored with only 14.9 seconds left in the first. MacIntyre and Turnbull picked up the helpers on the goal.

The second period proved to be quiet with just one goal as Mississippi's Devin Mantha cut into the Ice Flyers lead with 1:17 remaining in the period.

In the third, Alonzo struck again to make it 4-2 Ice Flyers with Shaun Arvai and Turnbull picking up the assists. The RiverKings then stormed back to tie the game with two goals by Corey Fulton and Todd Hosmer two minutes apart. Turnbull struck two minutes later to help the Ice Flyers retake the lead. Rodrigues and Arvai had the helpers. Rodrigues got his second goal of the game with a beautiful top shelf goal assisted by Alonzo. Mississippi's Hosmer struck again to cut the gap down to 6-5 with 6:14 left in regulation. The Ice Flyers held strong in the closing minutes, including killing off a five minute power play, to secure the win.

Ross MacKinnon stopped 35 of the 40 shots he faced from the RiverKings in his return to the Ice Flyers. Pensacola swept the Three Stars with Rodrigues being named third, Alonzo second, and Turnbull first.

The Ice Flyers' next game is tomorrow night in Biloxi, Mississippi as they take on the Mississippi Surge in a 7:05 Central Time tilt.
