Mississippi Surge News Release
Ross MacKinnon saves 28 for 28, shutting the Surge out on Military Appreciation Night at the Coliseum. The Surge struggled with 6 penalties, compared to only 2 for Pensacola. Surge netminder Mathieu Dugas saved 23 on the night, but the Surge offense lacked a true spark of momentum, despite a large home crowd.
The IceFlyers scored a goal in each period, with Brett Lutes leading the charge with an unassisted goal in period one. Steve Whitely scored in the second period on his only shot of the game, during a powerplay (Joshua Turnbull, Paul Rodrigues) and John Dunbar sealed the deal with the final goal of the night (Ryan Salvis, Brett Lutes).
The Surge will face Columbus at their next home matchup on Friday, December 20.
