Ice Flyers Down Surge 3-0

BILOXI, MS - The Pensacola Ice Flyers traveled to Biloxi for the third time this season and came out with yet another win over the Mississippi Surge, this time 3-0 with goals by three different goal scorers.

The Ice Flyers finally struck first and broke the scoreless tie when Brett Lutes converted an unassisted shorthanded chance with 5:50 remaining in the first. Pensacola took the 1-0 lead into the locker room despite being outshot by the Surge 11-9.

Steve Whitely scored on a power play for his third goal of the season to push the Ice Flyers' lead to 2-0 14:50 into the middle period. Podge Turnbull and Paul Rodrigues assisted on the extra man goal.

The Ice Flyers stretched their lead to 3-0 when John Dunbar scored with 6:40 left in regulation. Ryan Salvis and Lutes assisted on the tally.

Ross MacKinnon stopped all 28 shots the Surge threw at him for his second win and first shutout since returning to the Ice Flyers.

The Ice Flyers return to the Hangar tomorrow afternoon for the 3:05 matchup with the Louisiana IceGators in a battle between the SPHL's top two teams.
