Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - Guaranteed Fight Night was not the only thing the Knoxville Ice Bears won Saturday night at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. The gloves dropped on three separate occasions, while words were exchanged many more times between Ice Bears skaters and the Columbus Cottonmouths.
The SPHL's sixth-ranked Ice Bears' power play recorded two goals to wake up a once sluggish offense en route to a 3-1 victory.
Knoxville started the scoring early. After controlling the early portion of the game, Ice Bears forward Francis Drolet found the back of the net. Drolet picked up a rebound off a Cody Dion shot near one of the face-off circles and beat Columbus goaltender Travis Bosch.
Two minutes later, the Cottonmouths answered. Neilsson Arcibal scored his first SPHL goal to tie the game at 1 going into the first intermission.
Knoxville responded in the second. A Tory Allen tripping penalty put the Ice Bears on a two-minute man power play. Jon Higgins' tallied his fourth goal of the season to push Knoxville ahead 2-1. Peter Neal and Drolet picked up assists.
In the third, Eric Satim scored the second power play goal off a Mark Van Vilet shot to record the final score.
The Ice Bears take to the road next weekend as they travel to Columbus, Ga. Friday night to face the Cottonmouths. They return home December 20th to face the Mississippi Riverkings.
