John Gurskis Named Ice Bears Head Coach

June 21, 2024 - The Knoxville Ice Bears have hired John Gurskis as the team's ninth Head Coach in franchise history. Gurskis comes to Knoxville from the Wichita Thunder in the ECHL where he spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach. "I'm excited for this opportunity and excited to get the season going," said Gurskis. "I'd like to thank Mike Murray and Dave Feather for their hospitality, as well as our ownership group." Dyer Wins SPHL's Wanda Amos Community Service Award

June 19, 2024 - The SPHL announced today that Robert Dyer of the Knoxville Ice Bears has been selected as the recipient of the 2023-2024 Wanda Amos Community Service Award. The award recognizes an organization, current team staff member or league alumnus for their charitable contributions within an SPHL community. Along with his wife Kendra, Robert has been part of Knoxville's ownership group since the team's inception in 2002 and together are one of the founding members of the SPHL. Changes Made to Ice Bears Home Schedule

June 18, 2024 - Several dates for Ice Bears home games for the 2024-25 regular season have changed, SPHL Commissioner Doug Price confirmed last week. Knoxville's previously scheduled home dates for Friday, Jan. 17, Saturday, Jan. 18 and Thursday, Feb. 27 have been replaced with Saturday, Nov. 30, Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan 25. Ice Bears to Announce Coaching Hire on Friday

June 18, 2024 - The Knoxville Ice Bears will hold a press conference Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium to announce the ninth head coach in franchise history. The announcement comes after an extensive coaching search that featured more than 60 applicants over more than two months.
