Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins scored twice over a span of 1:47 in the closing minutes of regulation to skate past the Adirondack Phantoms, 2-1, at Wells Fargo Center.

Down 1-0 with 6:26 left in the third, it seemed as though the Penguins were in danger of being shutout for the third time in four games. Bobby Farnham instead knotted the contest with his second goal of the season. Philip Samuelsson held in the puck at the Adirondack blueline and fed Farnham at the near dot for a wrist shot to the top right corner.

Less than two minutes later, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took the lead for good when Jayson Megna and Brian Gibbons combined for the go-ahead goal. Megna gloved down a loose puck just outside the Phantoms zone and raced into the offensive end. Gibbons took a pass in the middle from Megna and cut to the far post before sliding a backhand shot under the pads of Cal Heeter.

The Penguins would stand tall for the remainder of regulation as goaltender Brad Thiessen made 29 saves to raise his record to 10-9-1 on the season. Heeter stopped 26-of-29 for Adirondack.

The Phantoms enjoyed a two-man advantage midway through the first period and it was Marcel Noebels' giving his team a 1-0 lead at 9:59. After Thiessen denied Matt Mangene on the near post with his leg pad, the puck squirted out to the low slot for Noebels to pound home.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went 6-for-7 on the penalty kill and was scoreless in seven power play opportunities.

The Penguins' annual SALUTE THE TROOPS will be held on Saturday, February 23 as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton takes on the Connecticut Whale at 7:05PM
