Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - In his first game with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins since Nov. 26, Andrew Ebbett netted two goals to lead his team to a 4-2 win over the Norfolk Admirals on Friday at the Norfolk Scope.

The score was 2-1 in favor of the Admirals after Andrew O'Brien's man-advantage goal with 2:08 remaining in the second period, but Ebbett made sure the Penguins headed into the locker room tied at two. The veteran forward skated down the left side with the puck and sniped a slapshot from the circle past the glove of Norfolk goaltender John Gibson with 37.1 seconds left on the clock.

The Penguins were able to keep the scored knotted, 2-2, through the first half of the third despite having to kill off three power plays for the Admirals. Scott Wilson provided the game-winner for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 10:10 of the period when his pass intended for Carter Rowney clipped off a Norfolk stick and under the pads of Gibson. The tally was Wilson's fourth goal and sixth point in his last three games.

Ebbett completed the scoring and was given credit for his seventh marker of the season when a center-ice faceoff slid all the way down the ice and into Norfolk's empty net with 5.4 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Penguins' top line of Nick Drazenovic, Tom Kostopoulos and Conor Sheary was able to give their team a 1-0 lead 4:19 into the first period. From his own blueline, Kostopoulos sent the puck across the neutral zone to Drazenovic, who sprung Sheary behind the defense for a backhand shot inside the right post.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton would have an opportunity to add to its lead with a 5-on-4 advantage early in the second, but the Admirals would kill it off and tie the score shortly after when Chris Wagner's centering deflected off a Penguins defender and through the legs of Matt Murray. The Penguins goalie finished with 27 saves on 29 shots for his fourth victory in his last five starts.

The Penguins and Admirals will do battle again on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7:15 p.m. Listen on WILK Newsradio or watch online at AHL Live.
