Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators surrendered five third period goals, three in the opening 2:45, to fall 5-2 to the visiting St. John's IceCaps. Andrew Hammond was perfect through the first 40 minutes stopping all 28 shots faced before becoming unraveled in final frame allowing four goals on 10 shots to fall to 7-13-2 on the season.
Derek Grant notched his 13th goal of the season just shy of the midway point of the first period to give Binghamton the 1-0 lead. Hammond stopped all nine shots faced in the opening 20 minutes to give the B-Sens the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Hammond continued his strong play in the second stonewalling all 19 of St. John's shots to keep Binghamton's one-goal advantage intact heading into the final period.
The IceCaps began the third period on the power play and needed just 41 seconds to tie the game 1-1 when Kyle MacKinnon scored his fourth of the season. Julien Brouillette gave St. John's the first lead of the night just 32 seconds later before Chase Balisy netted his 10th of the year at 2:45 to give the IceCaps a 3-1 lead. Scott Kosmachuk made it 4-1 with less than six minutes to play when he took a feed from Will O'Neill and beat Hammond for his eighth goal of the year. Chris Wideman notched a power-play goal for the B-Sens to cut the lead to 4-2 with less than four minutes to play but an empty-net tally from Carl Klingberg with 1:18 remaining moved the final score to 5-2 St. John's.
The IceCaps' Connor Hellebuyck stopped 37 of 39 shots faced to earn his 18th victory of the season. Klingberg finished with a goal and an assist while O'Neill added two helpers to lead St. John's offensively.
The B-Sens travel to Hershey tomorrow night for a 7:00p.m. faceoff against the Bears. Fans can listen live on US 96.9FM.
