Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins completed the home portion of their regular season schedule with a 3-2 victory against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
Holding a 2-1 edge going into the third period, the Penguins took a two-goal lead at 1:06 when Jason Williams used a Bridgeport defenseman as a screen to sneak a wrist shot to the back of the net and notch his 13th goal of the year.
A 3-on-2 rush would pull Sound Tigers back within a goal five minutes later as Tyler McNeeley fired a Matt Donovan pass over the right arm of Penguins netminder Brad Thiessen.
Thiessen kept Bridgeport off the board for the remainder of regulation to finish with 22 saves and raise his record to 23-15-2.
It took just 22 seconds for the Sound Tigers to break a scoreless as Thiessen made a blocker save on Sean Backman's wrist shot, but left the rebound in the slot for Mark Halmo to bang home.
The Penguins were able to even the match less than three minutes after the Halmo's tally on Steve MacIntyre's first goal of the season. Playing in his first pro game, Adam Payerl fed a pass from the behind the net that stuck in the crease for MacIntyre to whack across the goal line.
In the only power play chance of the opening frame, it was Wilkes-Barre/Scranton taking a 2-1 lead with 3:08 left in the first. From deep in the Bridgeport zone, Paul Thompson sent a backhand pass to the hashmarks that Colin MacDonald ripped past Bridgeport goalie Kenny Reiter for his 14th of the season.
