WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Hershey Bears erased an early two-goal deficit as they rallied to defeat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 3-2, at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in the first of their two preseason meetings this weekend.

For the third straight game, the Penguins entered the third period in a 2-2 tie with the opposition. On this night, the Bears pulled ahead to stay at 3:31 just as their man-advantage had expired. Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff made a stick save on low shot by Mike Carman, but the rebound flipped into the air and was swatted home by a crashing Alex Berry.

Power play goals dominated the first twenty minutes of hockey as the Penguins held a 2-1 lead going in the intermission. Consecutive 5-on-4 advantages for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton provided markers 1:22 apart. Joe Morrow rocketed a slapshot under the pads of starting Bears goalie Braden Holtby at 9:05 and Jayson Megna followed with a deflection goal off of Alex Grant's one-timer.

Working on their own power play, Hershey got on the board with 2:35 left until the break as Julien Broulliette intercepted a pass and beat Zatkoff to cut the Penguin's lead in half.

The only goal in the middle frame did not come during a man-advantage, but instead with the Bears skating with an extra-attacker. Stanislav Galiev threw a shot from bottom of the left circle that slipped into the corner of the net to knot the score, 2-2.

Zatkoff suffered the loss with 14 saves on 17 shots. Subbing in midway through the match, Dany Sabourin earned the win, stopping all five shots he faced. Holtby turned aside 8-of-10.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins conclude their exhibition schedule against the Hershey Bears on Sunday, October 7 at 5:00PM. For more information, call the Penguins at (570) 208-PENS or visit www.wbspenguins.com.
