Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen finished the preseason with a 2-1-0 record after a 5-3 loss to the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday at Carver Arena. Jake Allen made 24 saves in his only action of the preseason while Adam Cracknell, Derek Nesbitt and Phil McRae scored for Peoria.
Just 3:53 into the first period, Cracknell gave Peoria the early lead. Cracknell walked into the offensive zone and snapped a shot over the blocker of Hutton. Anthony Peluso and Sergey Andronov earned the assists.
Rockford was able to tie the affair with just over 5 minutes remaining in the first. Jimmy Hayes netted his first of two on the night from Marcus Kruger and Brandon Saad.
Kruger scored a shorthanded goal with 12:19 left in the second period to give the IceHogs their first lead of the night. With only one hand on his stick, Kruger was able to slide the puck past the left pad of Allen. Less than 2 minutes later Saad scored on a breakaway to increase Rockford's lead to 3-1.
At the 14:05 mark of the second Nesbitt scored on the power play to cut Rockford's lead in half. While parked in front of the net, Nesbitt received a pass from T.J. Hensick and tapped the puck past Hutton to bring Peoria within one.
With 6:21 left in the third the IceHogs extended their lead to two goals once again. Brandon Bollig jumped on a rebound in front of the goal, and backhanded it top shelf to beat Allen. Joe Lavin earned the only assist on Rockford's fourth goal of the evening.
McRae scored on the power play with 1:29 left to make it a one-goal game. 29 seconds later Hayes added an empty net tally to seal the deal for a Rockford win.
The Rivermen were outshot 29-16 in the game and finished 2-for-5 on the power play.
The Rivermen start the regular next Friday in Abbotsford at 9:00 p.m. All games can be heard on CD Country 107.9 FM or online through www.rivermen.net .
