
Falcons Trim Roster, Host Bruins in Preseason Finale Tonight

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons, AHL affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, announced six roster moves on Saturday.
Left wing Oliver Gabriel and defenseman Anton Blomqvist have been assigned from Springfield to its ECHL developmental affiliate, the Evansville IceMen. Center Dan Gendur and left wing Patrick Kennedy have been released by the Falcons from their tryout agreements and have returned to Evansville.
Additionally, the Falcons have released right wing Don Maloney and goaltender Daren Machesney from their tryout agreements.
The transactions reduce Springfield's training camp roster to 32 players (18 forwards, 10 defensemen, four goaltenders).
The Falcons will close out the preseason tonight when they host the Providence Bruins at the MassMutual Center at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at the MassMutual Center beginning at 3:00 p.m. or online through Ticketmaster.com.
On Friday night, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault recorded a hat trick for the Falcons as Springfield defeated Worcester, 4-3, at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons trailed 1-0 and 2-1 in the contest, but Audy-Marchessault gave the club a permanent lead just 1:09 into the second period. Paul Dainton made 24 saves on 27 shots in the victory. The win improved Springfield's preseason record to 1-1-0-0.
After beating Springfield on Wednesday night, 4-1, Providence fell to Bridgeport on Thursday night, 3-1, with each of its first two contests occurring at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Mass. The Bruins also enter tonight's game with a 1-1-0-0 record.
The Falcons and the Bruins will face each other 10 times during the regular season, including twice in October.
Springfield will open up the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7:00 p.m. against the St. John's IceCaps at the MassMutual Center.
