Penguins Down Phantoms for Fifth Straight Home Win
February 2, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, PA - Brad Thiessen made 20 saves on the night for the fourth shutout in his last eight starts as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Adirondack Phantoms, 3-0, at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
The Penguins went ahead, 1-0, at 10:53 of the first period on Warren Peters' sixth goal of the season. A loose puck bounced back to the point for defenseman Joe Morrow, who wasted no time firing a shot toward the net that Peters tipped over the shoulder of goalie Scott Munroe.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton extended its lead two with just 47.7 seconds remaining until the second intermission. Brian Gibbons threw a shot from the far corner of the Phantoms end that popped high into the air and dropped down inside the crease where Alex Grant pushed the puck past an unsuspecting Monroe.
Peters gave the Penguins some breathing room with 1:31 left in regulation, making it, 3-0, with his seventh goal of the season. Monroe took the loss for Adirondack, stopped 29-of-32 shots.
The Penguins have won eight of their last night and five in a row at home.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went 0-for-8 on the man-advantage and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
