Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Steady pitching and timely hitting were key for the Pelicans' second straight win tonight at Wake Forest Baseball Park in Winston-Salem, NC. Pelican starter Edgar Osuna (3-3) allowed only three hits and just one run over his seven innings to claim his third win of the season.
The Pelicans struck first in the top of the third when Jon Mark Owings led the inning off with his first home run of the year. Chad Lundahl singled two batters later and scored on a Robert Marcial two-out double to put the Pelicans on top 2-0.
The Dash would get their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on a leadoff double by Adam Ricks. With two outs, Greg Paiml plated Ricks with a double to pull within one at 2-1.
Back-to-back singles opened the eighth inning for the Pelicans and, with runners at the corners, Cole Miles executed the suicide squeeze which scored Owings from third and Matt Kennelly from first on a throwing error by Dash pitcher Dan Hudson. Hudson (1-1) ended up taking the loss after pitching eight innings and allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out eight.
Cory Gearrin (7), in his first appearance back with Myrtle Beach, pitched a perfect ninth to record the save.
The series continues tomorrow as the Pelicans send lefty Jeff Locke to the mound against right hander Anthony Carter. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 at Wake Forest Baseball Park in Winston-Salem, NC.
