Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Three unearned runs in the sixth inning propelled the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to a 4-1 win over the Down East Wood Ducks on Friday night from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
With the game knotted at 1-1 in the sixth, the Pelicans (25-29) took the lead thanks to two errors from the Wood Ducks (30-24). Andruw Monasterio crossed the plate on a throwing error by shortstop Anderson Tejeda to give the Pelicans the lead before Brendon Davis, the third baseman, threw a ball away passed second base to allow Aramis Ademan to score another run. Austin Upshaw then laced a single into right field to make it 4-1 Pelicans.
Matt Swarmer (5-2) earned the win with his six innings, only ceding a run on two hits while striking out six and walking one. Tyler Peyton tossed a scoreless ninth inning to record his fifth save on the season.
After the Pelicans took an early lead on a Connor Myers RBI double in the second inning, the Woodies tied the game in the fifth when Matt Whatley went deep for a solo homer.
