Pelicans Rally for Four Run Eighth Inning Sending Frederick to Fourth Straight Defeat

June 18, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

All series the Keys have been battling back. And as soon as Frederick took its first lead of the series with a dramatic two-run Jacob Julius to go up 5-4 in the eighth inning, the Keys fell apart. Frederick committed three errors in the bottom of the eighth inning en route to a four-run Myrtle Beach rally as the Keys were defeated 8-5. The loss is the fourth in a row for the Keys, its first losing stretch of four straight since April 20th-23rd.

Myrtle Beach took the early lead again going up 3-0 in the games first two innings. After getting a run back in the third inning, 3B Dale Mollenhauer hit his fourth home run of the year, sending a fly ball over the right field wall into the Pelicans bullpen to bring the Keys within 3-2.

Down 4-2 in the seventh inning the Keys got the first two batters aboard for CF Miguel Abreu who laced a double to bring home a run. 2B Bobby Stevens was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out but the Keys could not capitalize and the game went 4-4 to the eighth inning.

With two outs and no one aboard C Brian Ward put down a bunt single to keep the inning alive. Next up was Julius who launched a two-run home run to give the Keys the lead.

But the excitement turned to frustration in the bottom of the inning with three errors committed and four unearned runs coming around to score for the Pelicans.

Oliver Drake will try to end the losing streak Sunday, June 19th at 6:05 p.m. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. on 1450-AM The Source.

The Keys return home, Thursday June 23rd after the all-star break for a six-game homestand. It opens with the Principal Financial Dreams Tour with former Orioles great Chris Hoiles to sign autographs.
