THE HILLCATS: Friday, the Hillcats beat the Kinston Indians 8-0...RHP Zeke Spruill tossed eight scoreless frames, allowing just three hits, a walk, and struck out eight on his way to the win...OF Adam Milligan and INF Phil Gosselin both homered as the ‘Cats put up eight runs on 13 hits in the one-sided victory...The Hillcats sit in third place in the Carolina League Northern Division, 11.0 games back of the first place Frederick Keys...

VS. KINSTON: The Hillcats are 3-6 against the Indians this season...All three wins for the Hillcats have been shutouts...Despite the losing record, the ‘Cats have outscored Kinston 36-21...Lynchburg took the 2010 season series 14-6...However, the Hillcats have switched affiliations since last season...The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (2010 Braves Advance-A affiliate) lost the season series 8-12 against the Indians a season ago...

SPOILER ALERT: Lynchburg was officially eliminated from the Northern Division first half pennant race last Friday in Frederick...The Wilmington Blue Rocks were eliminated from the same divisional race after losing to the Hillcats Monday night at City Stadium...Heading into last night the Myrtle Beach Pelicans held a magic number of two (1.5 games ahead of Kinston)...After they defeated the Frederick Keys 6-5, the Hillcats and Indians game went final, officially eliminating Kinston from the Southern Division first half pennant race, clinching the division for the Pelicans...

BEST OF THE BRAVOS: Seven members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Braves organization according to Baseball America...That list includes SS Andrelton Simmons (15), RHP David Hale (17), RHP Dimasther Delgado (18), OF Todd Cunningham (20), OF Adam Milligan (22), INF Joe Leonard (23) and 2B Phil Gosselin (25)...

ALL-STAR REVISION: OF Adam Milligan has been named to the Carolina League All-Star team to replace injured teammate Todd Cunningham as a reserve outfielder...Milligan, who had a rather slow start to the season, hitting just .224 and driving in just 10 runs through his first 23 games before hitting the DL with a hamstring injury May 10...Since returning May 17, he has hit .316 (36-for-114) through 31 games, raising his batting average 52 points to .276...He's also driven in 26 runs in that span, giving him 36 on the season, good for the team-high...Six home runs since the injury have him at 11 this year, tied for second in the league...Plate discipline may be partly responsible for the offensive surge, as Milligan has drawn 13 walks post-injury, after taking just two free passes prior...

SHUTOUT SPRUILL: RHP Zeke Spruill threw eight more scoreless innings last night against the Kinston Indians...He has now thrown 17 and two-thirds scoreless in a row when facing the Indians, going back to the last two outs of his first start against them, plus the nine-inning complete game shutout he tossed in Kinston May 16...In his last two starts, Spruill has thrown 16 innings without allowing an earned run, he took a loss last Sunday in Frederick after surrendering an unearned run in the first inning...He completed the eight-inning losing effort and the Hillcats lost 1-0...He is tied for the league lead in complete games with three and leads the league in innings pitched with 90...His 0.97 WHIP ranks third...Despite posting a 3.40 ERA and getting a team-best (by over a run and a half) 5.57 runs per game in support, he is tied for the most losses in the league with seven...

228 AT-BATS LATER: INF Phil Gosselin homered in his eighth at-bat of the season, April 10 in Potomac...He was the first Hillcat to go deep in 2011...It went his next 228 at-bats with out a home run, before launching a three-run shot last night off Kinston releiver Francisco Jimenez in the sixth inning...In between home runs he had 62 hits, including 16 doubles, and a team leading five triples...

DON'T TEST ME: The Kinston Indians have had a runner thrown out at home plate three times the past two nights, and each time it has ended the inning...Last night, SS Andrelton Simmons relayed a throw from CF L.V. Ware to gun down Chase Burnette at home in the eighth inning to preserve the shutout...Thursday, OF Keenan Wiley and Simmons combined to throw out two Indians at home plate...In both scenarios, Kinston had a runner at first with two outs...Justin Toole was the first victim in the top of the second...C Shawn McGill played a big role as the throw did not beat Toole to the plate but McGill's left foot stopped Toole in his tracks blocking home and Toole was out...Deja vu in the eighth with the score tied 1-1, the trio struck again, Wiley to Simmons to McGill, nailing Anthony Gallas at home, saving the game for the moment...

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: INF Joey Terdoslavich was honored as the Carolina League Player of the Month for May as voted by the league's managers...Terdoslavich hit .304 (31-for-102) with four home runs and 20 RBI in 27 games last month...He is second in the league in home runs with 11 on the season...He also racked up 11 doubles in May, and currently has 22 total, tying him for second in the league as well...His average went from .243 to .279 during the month...The honor was the first weekly or monthly award of his career...So far in June, he is hitting just .226 with no home runs, and three RBI in 17 games...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP T.J. House was selected in the 16th round of the 2008 draft out of Picayune (MS) Memorial High School...Spent all of 2010 with Kinston...Tied for third in the Carolina League in starts (26), Fifth in innings pitched (135.2) and eighth in ERA (3.91)...In 2009 while playing for Lake County, ranked fourth among qualifying Indians minor league pitchers with a 3.15 ERA...Faced Lynchburg on May 17...Earned a win, giving up three runs on eight hits in six innings pitched...Currently 4-5 with a 4.99 ERA...
