May 18, 2006 - American Association (AA)
Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pelicans travel to league rival Shreveport Sports for their first meeting in 2006. The two clubs have a history of playing each other close. Pensacola has the overall edge with a 17-15 record against Shreveport but the Sports have the play-off edge, beating the Pelicans in the first round of the 2004 play-offs.

In 2005, Pensacola took the series with eight wins and only five losses. Just two weeks into this early 2006 inaugural American Association season, the Sports are 2-3, four games behind division leading Coastal Bend while the Pelicans are still searching for the first win at 0-7.

Pensacola has scored 25 runs in their first seven games compared to 24 runs scored by Shreveport in only five games.

Pensacola is in the midst of a seven game road trip starting with a four game series in Robstown, TX playing at Coastal Bend. Shreveport entertained the Lincoln Saltdogs for a three game series awaiting the Pensacola Pelicans for a three game set this weekend. Throw out the records when these two teams meet up and get ready to enjoy a thrill ride with both as they set to square off for the first time Friday in the first of 23 meetings in the 2006 season.
