St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

St. Paul, MN-St. Joe finished their season opening road trip by dropping the series finale, 8-2 in St. Paul. The Saints (6-1) have won six in a row, including the four-game sweep of the 'Snakes (1-6) who have now dropped five consecutive games. St. Joe now heads home for their home opener tomorrow night to open a six-game homestand with three against the Sioux Falls Canaries.

For the second straight night St. Paul roared out to the early lead against starter Jamie Tricoglou. With two outs in the first, the Saints had successive run scoring hits from Brian Becker and Adam Olow for a 2-0 lead.

Three more Saints scored in the second after two were out, with Pat Scalabrini's two-run double the big blow. The 'Snakes were in a 5-0 hole early on.

St. Paul starter Justin Lord retired the first twelve Blacksnake hitters before hitting Wil Quintana to start the fifth. The 'Snakes would only get to Lord for a single run in the fifth and another in the seventh as Terrell Merriman drove in both runs.

Merriman had two of St. Joe's six hits and drove in both 'Snakes runs.

Justin Lord (2-0) picked up the Saints victory with a career-best 6.1 innings while Jamie Tricoglou (1-1) suffered the loss. Tricoglou threw six innings and allowed six runs on ten hits.

Now St. Joe will look to end the losing streak at home as they play their next six at Phil Welch Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and the team has many festivities planned for the opening weekend. The team will give away Heartland Health schedule magnets Friday night, hold on-field festivities and have a fireworks show to follow the game. Kansas City native Mark Nussbeck (0-1) will start for St. Joe against the Canaries Tony Cogan (1-0). The broadcast begins at 6:45pm with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show on www.stjoeblacksnakes.com.
