Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - Former Canaries infielder Kyle Kmiecik is returning to Sioux Falls. Kmiecik was acquired from the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League to complete an April 28 trade.
"I am thrilled to have Kyle back on our team," said Canaries manager Mike Pinto. "He had a great rookie year with us in 2005, and he will fulfill an important roll with the team this season."
Kmiecik hit .273 in 91 games for the Canaries last season. He had 25 extra base hits and 29 RBI while splitting time defensively between second and third base.
His best game of the season in 2005 came on July 23 against the Sioux City Explorers. Kmiecik was 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs batted in, and three runs scored.
Bird Seeds: The Canaries released three players earlier today. Pitcher Jason Wall, outfielder Kenta Suzumegano, and infielder Dwight Delgado were all placed on waivers. ... The Canaries are currently on a five-game road trip visiting the Sioux City Explorers and St. Joe Blacksnakes. The team will return home on Tuesday, May 23 to host the St. Paul Saints for a three-game series at the Birdcage.
