St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - Justin Lord continued on the comeback trail Thursday night - and the St. Paul Saints kept winning games as well.

The righthander went a career high 6.1 innings to become the American Association's third two-game winner this season in St. Paul's 8-2 triumph over St. Joseph at Midway Stadium. The Saints have won six in a row since losing the season opener a week ago at Sioux City. The expansion Blacksnakes (1-6) have lost five straight games.

Josh Renick, Pat Scalabrini, Victor Rodriguez, Brian Becker and Adam Olow - the top five hitters in the St. Paul order - had two hits each and drove in seven runs to help the Saints finish off a four-game sweep before 3,893 fans.

Becker had a pair of doubles to take over the league lead with five. Rodriguez added a solo home run and Scalabrini knocked in a pair of runs as part of 13-hit attack. For the second night in a row, St. Paul ended the drama early, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning and three more in the second off losing pitcher Jamie Tricoglou (1-1).

Lord, who missed all of the 2005 season with "Tommy John" surgery on his right shoulder, was in command until the seventh inning when he surrendered three hits. For the second game in a row, he retired the first 12 batters he faced. He walked nobody and fanned one, continuing a trend for St. Paul pitching. In the first seven games of the season, Saints' starters have walked just two batters in 42 innings of work.

Matt Pike and Paul Lubrano finished up for Lord, retiring the last eight batters in a row.

St. Paul starts a three-game series against Sioux City Friday night. Anthony Boughner (1-0), the lone lefthanded starter on the staff, gets the nod for the 7:05 p.m. game.
