Pelicans hand Cats lopsided 13-0 loss

Antoin Gray drove home four runs and Aaron Jackson threw a complete-game shutout as the Pelicans whipped the Cats 13-0 on Monday night at LaGrave Field.

The Pelicans scored four times in the first inning on an RBI single by Marshall McDougall a sacrifice fly by Antoin Gray and a two-run double by Dallas Christison.

They added five runs in the second inning as Gray cleared the bases with a three-run double into the left field corner. Later in the frame, Marcos Rodriguez and Lou Palmisano each drove home a run with an RBI single to make it 9-0 Pelicans.

Pensacola took a 13-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run double by Chase Burch and an RBI single by Christison. Christison in the game was 2-for-4 in the game with three runs batted in.

Jackson was dominant throughout, permitting just four hits en route to his second career complete game. He struck out five, walked one and did not allow a runner past second base. With the win, Jackon's record improved to 3-3.

Ryan Riddle lasted just three innings and allowed a season-high 13 runs, 12 earned on 13 hits. He walked three and did not strike out a batter as his record dropped to 6-7. Five Cats relievers combined to blank the Pelicans over the final six innings, but the damage had been done.

Dustin Cameron, who hadn't appeared in a game since July 4 due to a hernia, returned to the mound, throwing a scoreless sixth inning.

With the loss, the Cats fell to five games behind the first-place Pelicans in the second half standings and dropped to 5-8 on the year against Pensacola.
