Captains too much for Diablos

El Paso Diablos News Release

Shreveport, LA - The El Paso Diablos got hot in a hurry and then went cold in a hurry as they fell to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains 9-4 at Fair Grounds Field on Monday night. El Paso held two one run leads in the early going, but would go cold after the second and end the night by striking out a season high 16 times. The Captains now continue on their quest for the playoffs as they remain just three games back of Pensacola.

El Paso would take a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Juan Camacho RBI single, but that was followed up by a Chris Garcia two run home run in the bottom of the first to give the Captains the lead. El Paso came right back to take the lead in the second when Kennard Bibbs had a two RBI double. Shreveport would leave the Diablos in the dust come the third inning sending nine men to the plate and pushing across five runs to take the lead for good. They added two more in the fifth inning, while the Diablos would plate their final run of the night in the sixth on an Eddy Rodriguez RBI single.

El Paso had three runs on five hits in the first two innings off Captains' starter Drew Coffey, but he would settle down into dominating fashion by sitting down ten in a row at one point while striking out seven out of those ten. On the night Coffey (1-1) pitched into the sixth inning and allowed four runs on eight hits with 11 strike outs. Diablos' starter Bryan Villalona (1-5) didn't fare quite as well as he suffered another rough start, lasting only three innings and giving up seven runs on six hits.

Everyone except for Kennard Bibbs struck out at least once in the ball game as the Diablos managed just three hits after the second inning. Eddy Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI to lead El Paso, while Juan Camacho extended his hit streak to 17 games by going 1-4.
